Last weekend was Quartzite Days in Jasper and no, DeAnn, they did not have goat races this year. They had turtle races but we didn't get to see them. We did, however, have the chance to take a quarry tour. I've always wanted to take this tour because I thought you weren't allowed to go into the quarry area except during their special days. It was very interesting - not nearly as large as I had expected. Found that quartzite is the hardest stone around - much harder than granite. They make counter tops, grave stones, pavers, signs and benches and yard signs, etc with their stone. It was a great tour and I'm glad we went - we even got samples.
Thought I'd take some pictures of dad's flowers this summer - they are beautiful. Here's the front door - I think the chair would look better painted terra cotta like the front door but haven't gotten that far yet.
If you look closely at this picture, there's a small evergreen tree in the front. This is Chase's tree that he brought home from school when he was in elementary school. Grampa says it should probably be transplanted this fall so he said we'll bring it to the farm and plant it in memory of "Grandpa Ken".
The gal next door planted some type of vining fruit between our two lots where there used to be a hedge row. There are lots of blossoms but no sign of anyfruit - I don't think she'll have a big crop this year.
This is the view from my front window - isn't it pretty? This pot of geraniums almost look fake.
That's it for this week. Dad and I are heading out to the Turner County Fair on Sunday afternoon and will be there for four days - not sure how much time we'll spend at the fair or just sightseeing in the area. It'll be nice to get away and do nothing for a few days.
Have a super week!!
Love,
Gramma and MOM
First of all, I LOVE your new blog background! Did you do that all by yourself? Dad's flowers do look nice but I always think his yard looks great, I remember being so proud of him (even though I would have never told him so) in high school because we always had a nice looking yard. I think planting the little tree in memory of Ken is a wonderful idea - just make sure Amy waters it!! Hope you have a wonderful time camping and at the fair.
